Racing is all about family for Brad Smith. Some of his earliest memories include helping his dad, Marv, with his 1957 Ford super stock at Mt. Clemens Speedway. Marv can now be found helping his son's efforts in the ARCA/REMAX series. Brad's brother and sister, Jeff and Debra, also spend a lot of time assisting both on and off the track, making Brad Smith Motorsports truly a family affair. Brad started his racing career in the ARCA series, running his first race at Talladega in 1988. He'd never gone 100 miles per hour in a racecar before, let alone over 200! When he’s not behind the wheel, Brad essentially has two full-time jobs: he spends countless hours each week preparing for the races and running his team, and he also works his “day job” as a vehicle systems engineer with the Ford Motor Company. He also holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Walsh College in Troy, Michigan and is in the process of completing his thesis for his master's degree at Central Michigan University.
Brad holds a lot of respect for the "hidden heroes" of racing, "without whom a large number of us racers would not be able to live out our dreams." |
